The Warren Conservation Commission develops and maintains an inventory of the Town’s natural resources, social resources and other lands which have historic, educational, cultural, scientific, architectural or archeological values in which the public has an interest and to assist in planning for their conservation for the continuing benefit of the townspeople.

Projects

Biological and Ecological Assessments

Over the last 15 years, Warren has engaged experts from Vermont Fish & Wildlife, Vermont Natural Resources Council and Arrowwood Environmental, to help document the natural history of Warren and prioritize the most important areas for conservation and habitat protection. Knowing what we have and what we might be losing with future development and fragmentation is essential as we plan for the future.

Knotweed Project

The Warren Conservation Commission began an effort to control Japanese Knotweed in 2019.  Since that time we have learned a tremendous amount about the species as well as effective control measures that can be employed to eradicate knotweed on a site-by-site basis.  Our focus has been on the upper reaches of the Mad River watershed in Warren and with the recent inclusion of sites on the Mad River in Granville and Lincoln.

Wildlife Corridors

Through mapping and analysis with Arrowwood Environmental and Vermont Fish & Wildlife, we have identified the most important wildlife corridors throughout town and have publicly identified some of these with highway signs. We encourage you to be aware and move slowly through these areas, and document your wildlife sightings at inaturalist in the Mad River Valley Wildlife Observation Project.
